I am extremely honored and privileged to welcome you at the Faculty of Law of the University of Information Technology and Sciences (UITS). It is well to known to all that UITS was founded in 2003 by the founding Chairman of PHP family, distinguished Bangladeshi philanthropist, industrialist, social worker, motivational speaker and Islamic thinker, Sufi Mohammed Mizanur Rahman and in recognition of his outstanding contributions to social welfare and industrial development, the government of Bangladesh conferred upon him the Ekushey Padak, the nation's second-highest civilian honor, in 2020.
Law is more than just a set of rules; it is a vital tool that helps to secure justice, human dignity, good governance, and sustain peace and social harmony. In a world that is becoming more and more integrated, legal education have to cross the traditional boundaries and prepare students able to understand complex national, regional, and global questions in answering two.
Our commitment as an institution whose mission is to provide a formally academic law education that is student-centred, rigorous and relevant academically and occupationally through historic dedication to: academic excellence; ethical values; critical thinking; and the veneration of rule of law at the Faculty of Law. We aspire to nurture the next generation of lawyers, judges, academicians, lawmakers and leaders who not only know their areas of law but also equipped with integrity, analytical ability, professional competence and the responsibility towards society so as to serve them better.
We foster a scholarly climate in which students are called to critically engage with constitutional law, human rights, international law, commercial and corporate law, technology/cyber law, environmental law, alternative dispute resolution and other burgeoning fields of legal scholarship. We envisage a vibrant space for research, advocacy, clinical legal education in national and international moot courts, professional development and academic collaboration nationally and internationally.
Amidst the rapid pace of technological transformation, including artificial intelligence, digitalisation, global trade and changes in cross-national legal paradigms, the nature of legal practice is evolving. As a result, we are dedicated to designing an innovative curriculum and educational environment that prepares our students to engage competently in the globalizing legal marketplace whilst firmly anchored in principles of justice, humanity and rule of law.
I truly believe that a great Faculty of Law cannot live without their students, faculty members and researchers, alumni and professionals. We are thus open to partnerships with universities, legal practitioners, courts, bar associations and international academic communities for the development of legal education and scholarship.
Students should approach the academic rigour of law school with curiosity, discipline, integrity and a desire to learn for life. The journey we take in law is not just a preparatory workshop for practicing as an attorney, it is preparation for living a life of engaged service and responsibility.
Dear students, academic and administrative staff, alumni, future candidates and visitors of the Faculty of Law. I hope that your time at the faculty of law, UITS helps you grow intellectually, brings career satisfaction and comradeship.
